All of these buildings and structures are at least 400 feet high and though St. Louis lacks any really tall skyscrapers it does have the tallest monument in the United States. A monument that is one of the most recognized and widely visited tourist attractions in the country.

1) Gateway Arch - 630 feet

At 630 feet in height the Gateway Arch in St. Louis is the tallest monument in the United States and one of the most recognized landmarks and visited tourist attractions in the country. The Gateway Arch is also the tallest building or structure in St. Louis and in Missouri. Visitors to the arch can ride to the observation deck at the top for views stretching as far away as 30 miles on a clear day. Opened to the public in 1967 the Gateway Arch is a great tourist attraction and enduring symbol for the city of St. Louis.

2) One Metropolitan Square - 593 feet

One Metropolitan Square also know as Met Square and Met 1 is located at 211 North Broadway and at 593 feet is the tallest building in St. Louis. Built in 1989 One Met Square was designed by and is occupied by the largest architectural firm in the United States HOK. There is a restaurant and rent-able banquet facility located on the 42nd floor which is the top floor of the building. Many hotels are located close by.

3) One AT&T Center - 588 feet

One AT&T Center is located at 909 Chestnut Street and at 588 feet is the 2nd tallest building in St. Louis, Missouri and the largest building in the city with 1.4 million square feet. Built in 1986 the 44 floor One AT&T Center is completely rented out by AT&T and 4,800 of its employees work in the building which is conveniently located near the best hotels and restaurants in St. Louis.

4) Thomas F. Eagleton Courthouse - 557 feet

Located at 111 South 10th Street the Thomas F. Eagleton Courthouse is the 2nd largest courthouse in the United States and the world and the 3rd tallest building in St. Louis. Completed in 2000 the 29 story Eagleton Courthouse was designed by HOK the largest architectural firm in the United States and cost a cool $186 million dollars to build.

5) One US Bank Plaza - 484 feet

One US Bank Plaza is located at 505 North 7th Street in downtown St. Louis and at 484 feet in height is the 4th tallest building in St. Louis. When completed in 1976 One US Bank Plaza was the tallest building in the city and remained so until 1986 when One AT&T Center was completed.

6) Laclede Gas Building - 404 feet

The Laclede Gas Building is located at 720 Olive Street and is the last building in St. Louis that is at least 400 feet in height. When completed in 1969 the 31 story Laclede Gas Building was the tallest building in the city until One US Bank Plaza was finished in 1976. The building is the headquarters of the Laclede Gas Company but is owned by Hertz Investment who paid $10.5 million dollars for the building 2007 and are probably underwater on the investment today.
